"I try to capture its essence, the feel and mood of the atmosphere"

Landscape is my primary focus. This is not so much with forms and features as its more elusive qualities. I try to capture its essence, the feel and mood of the atmosphere. I particularly love working with colour and texture. I love the translucent quality of water colour because it can be so expressive. With it I can pick up the fleeting effects of light using 'on the spot 'images in a sketch book. Back in the studio these can be developed into mixed media paintings or translated into ceramics designs. My work is designed for domestic interiors and for gifts. Over the years I have exhibited both with groups or in solo exhibitions. I have given workshops to individuals and many different groups.

Creativity has always been important to me. As a child, I spent very occasional school holidays with my Aunt, who did fashion design and my Grandmother, who taught and exhibited Embroidery/Dressmaking and tailoring during the wartime, when 'Make Do and Mend' was in vogue. Time spent learning to make things in cloth with them is a treasured memory. Although I have only been a practicing artist for the last 20 years or so, I have been making things for as long as I can remember using whatever came to hand. Blue Peter was made for girls like me. More recently I qualified with a B.A. in Contemporary Craft (2007), from MMU Cheshire specialising in embroidered textiles and ceramics.
